The Art Institute of chicago was founded in 1879, now located in the heart of Chicago. Is one of the great buildings in the city, a great proud of all chicagoans.
I had the privilege of be there my first time, on a small field trip of art class, as I first entered I start stering around and it didn't seem like very big building, I kept walking forward and I enter into the first gallery, I was able to appreciate some Van Gogh's and Monet's paintings in reality and the first question I asked my self is " Are this are the original paintings?" I had see this artwork only in books or some others photos, some were really different from what I was known.
On some others galleries I was able to see some Picasso's, Gauguines's, and others. On each gallery artworks have something in common.
As I kept walking into others room I realize I had just saw half of the building, never expect to be so great designed , I was just half way and ready to enter to the " new wing". Is another recently addition to the Institute, it is a green building and it contains the modern european artwork.
On this "new wing" I a lots of art works that I haven't see before and artist never heard of them like Giorgio de Chirico, Arshile Gorky, and others but all of them have a great artwork.
Since I felt I had such a great experience and I was running out of time I hope to be back soon and discover and learn some from the sculpture gallery. No wonder why is such a proudness for the chicagoans.
